MARCELO WENDEL

Chief Researcher for EPE in Cooperation Agreement with AIE


Marcelo Wendel joined the Energy Research Company (EPE) in 2014, initially working as an analyst at the Superintendence of Generation Projects and later at the Superintendence of Economic and Energy Studies. He is currently conducting studies on the challenges to be faced by Brazil in the long term for the development of energy applications of nuclear technologies. At EPE, he is Chief Scientific Investigator (CSI) in a cooperation agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) within the scope of the coordinated research project "Economic Appraisal of SMR Projects: Methodologies and Applications". He contributed to several national energy planning studies, with emphasis on studies related to electricity market designs and proposals to change the conditions for contracting and commercializing energy for electricity auctions. He accumulates experience in the energy area also prior to EPE, during the period he was at Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Copel) and Petrobras. He holds a degree and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
