LUIZ PINGUELLI ROSA
Physicist, ex-President of Eletrobrás ex-Director of COPPE/UFRJ
Bachelor in Physics from PUC – RJ (1967), Master in Nuclear Engineering from COPPE (1969) and Doctor in Physics from PUC – RJ. Full professor at UFRJ, he took over the direction of COPPE three times. He is currently Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change and coordinates COPPE's Energy Planning Program. he has supervised more than 70 master's dissertations and doctoral theses, is the author of more than 150 articles in scientific journals, published in Brazil and abroad, and has more than 180 citations in the Citation Index of publications in indexed international scientific journals. The academic has already been at the head of the Brazilian Society of Physics for two terms and presided over the Latin American Energy Planning Association, from 1994 to 1998. He was also a member of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science - SBPC and of the Pugwash Council, an association founded by Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the professor integrates the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC / UN) and has already been awarded the Forum Award by the American Society of Physics, in 1992. Received the commendation with the degree of Chevalier de L'Ordre des Palmes Académiques, awarded in 1998 by the French Ministry of Education; the Gold Golf Prize, science category, granted in 2000 by the State Council of Culture of the State Government of Rio de Janeiro and the Medals of the Order of Merit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, in 2003.
