JOSÉ LUIZ ALQUÉRES

Director of JLA – JL Alquéres Consultores Associados and former President of Eletrobrás


Graduated in Civil Engineering from PUC/RJ 1966, studied Social Sciences at IFCS-UFRJ and took postgraduate courses in Brazil, the United States and France. He is managing partner of JLA – JL Alquéres Consultores Associados. He was Counselor Director (Member of the Executive Board) of the ICC – International Chamber of Commerce – Paris. He was National Secretary of Energy and chaired CERJ, Eletrobrás, Alstom do Brasil, Light Serviços de Eletricidade SA and MDU do Brasil. He was a member of some Boards of Directors of large energy companies in Brazil, including Itaipu, Eletrobrás Furnas, Chesf, Eletrosul, Nuclen,, Cesp, CPFL, Cemig, EDP and Honorary Vice President of the World Energy Council. He worked at BNDES, was Director of BNDESPAR and Cia. Bozano Simonsen and member of several Strategic Boards, such as Calyon-Crédit Lyonnais, Arsenal Investimentos, FIP-Pactual, Rio Bravo and Signatura- Lazard Frères. He was a member of the Board of Cemig, President of the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro, of which Meritorious is great. Member of the Boards of Directors of Energisa, QGEP Exploração e Produção de Petróleo and Monteiro Aranha. Advisor and President of cultural and philanthropic organizations. Board member of CEBDS – Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development and Vice-President of CEBRI – Brazilian Center for International Relations. Consultant in the infrastructure area, he structured RME (partners Cemig, Pactual, Luce and AGC Concessões), which acquired Light in 2006, of which he was CEO until February 2010 (period of private management and high profitability). Chaired the Board of Directors of Eletrobras (for the second time) from July 2016 to April 2017. Officier of the Ordre National du Mérite (France), Honorary Citizen of North Dakota (USA). Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Tiradentes where he founded and presided over the Yves Alves Cultural Center.
