BENTO ALBUQUERQUE

MINISTRY OF MINES AND ENERGY Admiral de Esquadra, 62 years old, Bento Albuquerque is from Rio de Janeiro. He was Director General of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy, at which time he headed the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB) and the Navy Nuclear Program (PNM). He began his military career in 1973. As a Submariner Officer, he commanded the Submarines “Tamoio” and “Tonelero”; the Submarine Base “Almirante Castro e Silva”; and also the Submarine Force. He also held the positions of Chief of Staff of the Armada General Staff, Chief of the Navy Commander's Office and Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet. Minister Bento Albuquerque held the Post-Graduate Courses in Political Science at the University of Brasília; MBA in Public Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas; and an MBA in International Management from COPPEAD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to several Military Courses at the Escola de Guerra Naval and the Higher Studies in Politics and Strategy Course at the Escola Superior de Guerra, becoming a Doctor of Naval Sciences. In the National Congress, he served as Parliamentary Advisor to the Cabinet of the then Minister of the Navy and as Chief Parliamentary Advisor to the Commander of the Navy. Minister Bento Albuquerque's international experience includes the post of Director General of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), an entity linked to the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington DC, USA; and the United Nations (UN) Military Observer post during the Bosnian War – first in the City of Sarajevo and later in Dubrovnik, Croatia. He held the positions of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Amazônia Azul Tecnologias de Defesa SA (AMAZUL) and of Nuclebrás Equipamentos Pesados SA (NUCLEP). He currently holds the Presidency of the Board of Directors of Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE) and is a Member of the Board of Directors of ITAIPU BINACIONAL. In 2019, Minister Bento Albuquerque was awarded the “Personality of the Year” award by the National Federation of Fuel, Natural Gas and Biofuel Distributors - BRASILCOM; and with the “100 Most Influential Energy Influencers 2019” Award, in the “Public Personalities” Category, by Full Energy Magazine, from Grupo Mídia.
